Study Suggests Electric Vehicles Market to Grow

Growth in the number of electric vehicles on U.S. roads over the next five years stands to spur demand for electric charging stations at private businesses, according to a new study conducted by Zpryme Research and Consulting.

The Electric Vehicle Study found that more than 730,000 electric vehicles could be on U.S. roads by 2016. The number of public charging stations could reach 344,900 by the same year. According to Zpryme, pioneer consumers located primarily in Western states and metropolitan areas will make up the majority of electric vehicle drivers in the next few years.

According to the study, 37.2 percent of respondents said they were “very” or “somewhat” likely to purchase an electric vehicle in the next two years.  Of that segment, however, only 8.5 percent were “very likely” to purchase an electric vehicle.
